Description
This 16-track compilation contains eight studio tracks from
Gary Numan's self-released albums of the late '80s and early '90s. Much more interesting are the eight rare live tracks that make up the rest of the album. Not available on any of the several live
Gary Numan albums (WHITE NOISE, GHOST, DARK LIGHT, etc.), these undated recordings are nonetheless among the best live versions of these songs. ARCHIVE spans Numan's career from his early days with Tubeway Army, whose postpunk masterpieces "Are Friends Electric?" and "Me, I Disconnect from You," are here reworked into Kraftwerk-like meditations, through his breakthrough hit "Cars," to later tracks like "We Take Mystery To Bed" and "We Are Glass." Perhaps the most surprising cut, primarily because he pulls it off so well, is a live take of Numan's cover of Prince's "U Got the Look."
