Ask an André Rieu fan the single feeling most engendered when he/she experiences his music and the majority will say – “It makes me happy”. And so with that in mind, André decided to put together an album that would bring sheer happiness to his listeners. And, indeed, music that brings him happiness. Night after night he performs the perennial Strauss waltz The Beautiful Blue Danube and it never fails to inspire him. Off to a rollicking start with Strauss & Co, we are reminded of our Wonderful World, are introduced to the beautiful Limburg district from whence André hails, we lie in green fields and watch the clouds pass by as we’re seduced by Greensleeves or the ‘Vilja-lied’ from Lehár’s The Merry Widow, and we finish with an exuberant shout of communal joy with the immortal ‘Hallelujah’ from Handel’s Messiah.
