Description
In 1947 Liverpool, England, a theatre director assembles his cast and rehearses them through a series of plays. Various sexual and emotional intrigues, which occur backstage, weave themselves into a finale of both triumph and tragedy involving sixteen-year-old Stella. Stella, who lives with her aunt and uncle, yet has regular and mysterious phone-calls with her mother, is part of the cast-and-crew as an unpaid student.
