Reuben Feffer has made a good career and a fine life out of playing it safe. As the senior risk assessor for a leading insurance firm, Reuben is an expert on minimising danger. Australia's Bryan Brown plays Reuben's most challenging insurance client, a death defying media mogul who is intent on showing Reuben that his uninsurable extreme lifestyle 'is' a safe bet for Reuben's insurance company.

Among the mayhem this new client is causing, Reuben soon finds his best-laid plans for life and love destroyed when his bride dumps him on their honeymoon for a scuba instructor. Heartbroken, Reuben vows to play life safer than ever, but then a chance encounter leads him into a whirlwind romance with Polly Prince, an adventure-craving childhood friend, who plays her life like a game of chance. While Reuben is adamant that sticking to the rules and following a schedule is 'the' way to live, Polly lives for the moment and takes Reuben along for a hysterical ride with steamy salsa dancing; extreme sports; near-sighted ferrets and an array of spicy foods. But will their relationship last? Can Polly teach Reuben to lighten up? Can Reuben plan a stable future with this on-the-move bohemian? Will Reuben re-unite with his wife?
