Description
No rap-metal or nu-metal for the heavy dudes of Down. These guys learned their lessons from the Old Testament of heavy metal; Black Sabbath (there are enough doomy riffs here to fill several Ozzfests), Led Zeppelin (the album itself is named for a lyric from Zep's most requested song), and the like. Not that DOWN II finds these men of metal practicing musical necromancy; this is fully contemporary stuff at least as modern-sounding as anything being concurrently created by Metallica. it's just that the blues-rock influence on the guitar licks, and the willingness to immerse themselves in an epic like the intimidatingly titled "Landing on the Mountains of Meggido" (complete with tympani and acoustic guitar filigrees) puts them in line more with those who've influenced them than those who are likely to share a rock festival with them.
